Solving for Today.
Preparing for Tomorrow.
As EMR adoption approaches maximum levels, healthcare delivery organizations are refining EMR strategy from a short-term clinical documentation data repository to a long-term asset with substantial functionality surrounding clinical decision support, health maintenance planning and quality reporting. A recent KPMG survey of CHIME members found that at least 38% of CIOs are investing in EHR optimization projects this year. HDOs in pursuit of EMR optimization must recognize that EMRs deliver value when data can be leveraged to drive strategic decisions, improve patient care and control costs.
The need for optimization is particularly pronounced for MEDITECH EMR clients facing transition decisions, as the majority of the client base leverage the legacy C/S & Magic platforms. It’s with this need around optimization that we are proud to unveil the MEDITECH EMR Optimization Toolkit, which provides guidance for HDOs to produce demonstrable ROI and improved outcomes, yielding more out of their EMR investment. The toolkit is a product of the continued collaboration with our MEDITECH team and focus group of 9 MEDITECH clients. Powered by insights delivered from HIMSS Analytics Logic, the toolkit provides guidance for areas of MEDITECH optimization including:
- Deliverable Package of Complex Rules, Assessments, CDS's and Workflows
- Surveillance Dashboard Setup Guide
- 6.x Rules Setup Guide
- IV Charge Capture Setup Guide
Our Newsletter also reports on:
- Project Claire[IT]: A mission to change “Working as Designed” to “Working as Desired” for MEDITECH users;
- A discussion of data sharing and interoperability needs for patients as recently published by Galen Lead Consultant Max Stroud in Healthcare Informatics;
- Re-cap, slides and recording for the “SSM Integrated Technologies Clinical Data Migration” webinar.
I hope that you find this information helpful, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

Introducing Project Claire[IT]
What began as an education session on the MEDITECH 6.x Rules engine soon turned into a concentrated collaboration between Galen and a Focus Group of nine MEDITECH hospitals looking to fill gaps in clinical workflow. We embarked on a mission to change “Working as Designed” to “Working as Desired” for MEDITECH users, and from there Project Claire[IT] was born.

Let’s Start Talking to Patients About Their Data Needs
Data sharing, interoperability, is constantly in the headlines. How do we achieve it? How do we make access easier for everyone? However, it’s rare that “everyone” means looking at the patient’s data needs and the healthcare organizations’. Galen Consultant Max Stroud has been a champion behind getting the patient’s voice heard.
