Solving for Today.
Preparing for Tomorrow.
Coming off HIMSS18 a few weeks ago, and our annual company meeting the following week, we return with inspiration, passion and vigor to continue our mission to provide a best-in-KLAS experience to our clients.
What CIOs Were Saying at #HIMSS18
While at HIMSS18, we were fortunate to get the chance to speak with three leading healthcare CIOs – Richard Temple, Deborah Heart & Lung Center, Eric Raffin, San Mateo Medical Center, and Michael Archuleta, Mt. San Rafael Hospital – where they shared sentiment and perspective on the state of HealthIT, HIMSS18 impressions, and how they are innovating to improve the patient experience and patient outcomes.
We will be releasing the full interviews in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, we have published a trailer video which provides highlights of our discussions. In addition, our HIMSS18 re-cap article provides our top takeaways and impressions from the conference.
Our Insights from #HIMSS18
While it is certainly easy to be overwhelmed by the noise of HIMSS - especially surrounding AI & ML solutions, which seemingly dominated discussion - the event validated our actionable and practical data migration and data archival solutions & services.
Healthcare delivery organization consolidation continues as M&A is driven by a desire to increase scale and spread out risk. In fact, Chilmark Research forecasts that by 2025, M&A will lead to 70% of care at one of 12 national healthcare provider organizations.
Eliminating the technical debt and risk that legacy systems pose will be on the forefront for healthcare delivery organizations, as legacy system sunset and legacy application support drive tangible ROI, freeing capital and resources for other initiatives.
Upcoming Opportunities to Engage
With the premier annual healthcare IT event behind us, we focus our attention to several upcoming conferences where we will be exhibiting and presenting.
- Visit our table at the 10th annual Allscripts CRUG forum, where we will present “Business Continuity Planning: Documentation During EMR Downtime.”
- Visit booth #992 at the 35th annual MUSE Inspire conference, where we will co-present with Valley Health: “ENGINUITY for MEDITECH 6.x/6.1+: Rule Driven, Crowd-sourced, Clinical Decision Support.”
- Visit our table at the inaugural Health IT Expo, where we will present “Exploring & Evaluating Healthcare Data Archival Methodologies & Strategies.”

HIMSS18 Debrief: 5 Impressions
Over 43,000 attendees and 1300 vendors. And like a wedding day, long anticipated, HIMSS18 came and went in the blink of an eye. The premier of HIMSS.tv provided non-stop coverage of the event for those starved for video play-by-play analysis, and the advanced release of education session handouts somewhat alleviated FOMO. Our top takeaways follow:

EMR Data Archival ROI
Substantial ROI can be achieved by retiring legacy EMR systems and archiving. Recently, one of our clients, a 140 bed, 350 physician hospital, sunset legacy eClinicalWorks, Hyland OnBase and Allscripts Sunrise Clinical Manager applications, archiving the data with VitalCenter Online Archival. Their cost savings were staggering, with $200K+ in year 1 savings, $1.4MM+ in year 2 savings, and $15MM+ in 10 year savings, yielding 97% lifetime ROI.

Legacy EMR Support Resources
The need for outsourced EMR support is especially pronounced when replacing EMRs. HCOs need to continue to support and maintain their legacy system during the EMR transition, but also desire to ensure their staff are able to focus on the implementation of the new EMR. Making the decision to outsource legacy application support affords HCOs the ability to obtain flexibility in staffing and enable seamless adoption of the new system.

Top 7 #PopHealthIT Questions to Ask PHM Vendors at #HIMSS18
On the eve of HIMSS18 and the highly anticipated release of the seminal Chilmark Research PHM Market Trends Report, we thought it would be beneficial to provide a Population Health Management (PHM) primer for those attending the conference in search of what to look out for and what questions to ask. There are a plethora of resources available on the topic, and in fact, HIMSS has neatly packaged PHM conference education and symposium into #PopHealthIT.

Healthcare’s Retail Transformation – Enabling Healthcare Consumerism
As patients are no longer price-insulated, and bear more and more costs, healthcare is transforming to a retail, consumerism market before our eyes. To maintain competitiveness, healthcare delivery organizations must develop a more nuanced understanding of consumers’ needs, preferences, and values.
