Solving for Today.
Preparing for Tomorrow.
Signifying warmer weather and new beginnings, Spring is a hopeful time, a chance to start fresh. We bear witness to this theme in healthcare information technology as CIOs are forced to rationalize their application portfolio with downward cost pressures. To this regard, HCOs are pursuing consolidation through sunset of legacy systems, data migration and archival. Further, as we head toward value-based reimbursement, the role of the CIO is changing from managing the infrastructure and basic IT initiatives to a strategic position that demands maintaining patient satisfaction and better quality of care. The business model and the care model are becoming increasingly intertwined.
This thesis is supported through the conversations we’ve had with CIOs through our CHIME CIO Interview Series. In our feature article, we provide perspectives from HealthIT CIOs including integration, connectivity, governance, consolidation, simplification, reduction and accessibility. We follow that up with a guide to rationalizing and optimizing your HealthIT portfolio, yielding our top tips including inventory, automation, mapping, analysis, consultation, development and implementation. By better understanding and optimizing the portfolio of applications, your organization can modernize legacy systems, eliminate redundancies, and reduce maintenance costs.
Data migration and archival are core tenets to application portfolio rationalization, and it’s in this vein that we feel fortunate to have Sandy Winkelman, Project Manager, SSM Integrated Health Technologies, present along with Taylor Mawyer, Managing Consultant, and Kavon Kaboli, Senior Consultant, on the topic of functional and technical considerations for clinical data migration. Sandy and team will provide invaluable perspectives and lessons learned from SSM’s EHR transition from GE Centricity and MEDITECH to Epic. Join us on Wednesday, April 26 from 1-2PM EST for the complimentary webinar.
Our Newsletter also reports on:
- Continuation of the CHIME Interview series featuring Robert Napoli of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaaiian Islands, and Charles Christian of the Indiana Health Information Exchange;
- Perpetuation of our data migration blog series, where we examine considerations when migrating data into a live Epic environment;
- Re-cap, slides and recording for the “What to Expect When Migrating” webinar.
I hope that you find this information helpful, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
